Okay, i downloaded and registered and stuff all yesterday night for Final Fantasy 11. Then it didnt work so i spent most of today on their support chat trying to fix it.:curse: Apparently, i need to set my internet router to "Bridge mode.":dizzy: If you guys could help me out i would greatly appreciate it.:D
My stuff:
D-Link Router: DI-514
Westell Wirespeed DSL Modem: B90-210015-04
Verizon DSL (ISP)
the router is downstairs from this computer, and for a direct connection i would need a 15 ft. or so cable and a hole through the floor. I am trying to figure out how to put it into Bridge Mode, whatever that is i dont know, and i hope it doesnt mean direct connection.
There is what i need to know, Thanks in advance!

I'm not sure but if that is a wi-fi router from dlink and your computer has a wi-fi adapter in it then I don't see the need for bridge mode. You may need to forward some ports but I don't know that bridge mode is needed to play online games like FF.

the support guy from Playonline (FFXI) told me that the standard setup for wireless connections dont allow enough ports at once or something like that.

Well it turns out there is more to FF than most online games afterall. While reading some info on portforward I came accross this tid bit...
"The Dlink DI-514 will not allow you to forward enough ports, to run Final Fantasy XI(PC). You should try using the DMZ portion of this router if it is available. Alternatively you can try switching the router to bridged mode. You will need to contact your ISP to switch to bridged mode, so they can make the required changed on their end. "
You could set your computers lan ip as the DMZ just while playing the game then disable that after game play. That may work but would be a pain to do each time you want to play. I'll do some reading on your router and post back with some info. In the meantime since I am not a gamer if another of our members or mods does game and has done FF behind this same router feel free to post.

According to https://secure.playonline.com/supportus/index02.html
Port numbers that may be used by the PlayOnline server group.
TCP 25.80.110.443 or 50000 - 65535
UDP 50000 - 65535
you should be able to set up a single rule to allow that.... the other option is to set up a trigger and that would support more than a single range of ports.
