i have two xp computers on a d-link router/cable internet. the laptop uses a wireless connection to the network but it is also normally hardwired to the network most of the time. my networks name is "default" and it is secured. however, when i look at the available wireless networks on the laptop, "default" sometimes appears as unsecured. if i refresh the list, it usually switches to secured. there doesn't seem to be a pattern. can anyone tell me what is going on?

Sounds like it is always secured but just shows unsecured by mistake. Theres no way that refreshing the list of available networks would change an unsecured network to become secure. I reckon if someone tries to get access to the network without the WEP key they wouldnt get access. The only way to know is to try it with another wireless pc/laptop. Next time it shows insecure you could always remove the WEP key from your laptop and try connecting wirelessly.
