Converting mp2 files to mp4

Do I need some special software? If yes will I need to buy it or can I just downlaod it?

Thanks alot of your help, I googled it myself already though. Is there any free converter I could use? If not, then I have no choice but to buy one. Though if I bought one, which one do you experts recommend?
