Have you checked the proxy settings for the browsers?
Open a command window and ping google.com (ping www.google.com), post the results back here.

I don't understand how you got an IP address of 1.0.0.0 for google. It is obviously wrong.

When you are connected to the router how many network connections do you have? The IP config you showed above shows nothing connected on the LAN connection. I would expect that would be the connection that is used when connected to the router. Is the IP config from when you were connected to the router?

Unplug Modem

Make sure every time you add/remove the router from the network that you unplug the modem, wait a minute or two, then plug it back in.

When I use the router it shows up in the taskbar saying that im connected. When I type the address of the router into my browser i can view the settings and that says im connected. I can use all other programs to connect to the internet successfully except IE and firefox. Would I have to set up my browsers in any way to get them to work, such as enter the address of the router, but if so what port would i use? All I have is the router connected to the phoneline and the mains, and then connected to my computer with an ethernet cable. Yes the ipconfig was with the router connected.

Ok while connected to the router...

open a command window and run nslookup
at the '>' prompt enter set debug
then at the '>' prompt enter www.google.com
then at the 'prompt' enter exit

post the output back here. With an IP address of 1.0.0.0 for google something seems way off with your hostname resolution. I don't know why it would only be through the router though.

can you paste in the text from the nslookup 'cause for some reason the images you post don't always show up.

BTW - yes it does help, it tells us that it is you host name resolution that is having a problem.... Now just to figure out why.
