I am wondering why my wireless connection always disconnects me from time to time. I connect through Linksys wireless adapter-B and I rely on a gateway router (2wire). I tried unplugging my wire and replugging the wire back in the adapter but it still disconnects me. Can anyone tell me what's wrong with my internet?

Wireless can be dodgy from time to time. I usualy ping my router to check to see if it is recieving packets as it should. Do you know your routers IP address. If its a Linksys router they are usualy 192.168.1.1. Other Makes are usualy 192.168.0.1.

Go to Start and then Run. Type cmd. Then type:

ping 192.168.1.1 -t

or

ping 192.168.0.1 -t.

You can then monitor it over time to check if the connection is dodgy. If it is you will see dropped packet every so often. In my experience the USB adapters (is it a dongle?) are crappy. I have a pci card with a proper aerial and even that isn't brilliant but its much better than a dongle.

My gateway router is a 2wire and its not the same company as my Linksys adapter. The ip that I am using doesnt start with 192 starts with 172.16.1.34
But uh, I have a question what's a dongle?

Its a little USB stick. Looks like a USB memory stick.

2wire routers are usualy set to 192.168.1.1 as default. If you have changed it from default then ping the new IP instead.

If you are behind a router your ip should be a private ip example 192.168.0.1 or 192.168.1.1 the ip you listed is a public ip. Do you have a cable or dsl connection? Can you log into the routers config area? Are you using the latest drivers/firmware for that usb adapter, you should be able to get them from the linksys website.

ok first thing is try to log into the router. Look on the bottom of the router for a model number and a ver number. The 2wire routers have different defualt ip's for thier models anything from 172.16.0.1 to 192.168.1.254 to and address like gateway2.2wire.net. So knowing the model number and ver number would help us to give you the right default ip to enter into your browser.
