Thought I would do some cleaning up of old programs that I'm not using in prep to Ghost my hard drive over to a larger drive.

When I go to Add/Remove programs I get the following

an unexpected error has occured
Class not registered
res://apwiz.cpl/listbox/htc
line225

another mesage says no programs installed, and none show in the window
Ive searched and everything I find seems to involve heavey editing of the registry, Im wondering if anyone has a quick/safe fix?
What about a re install of windows, will my files be saved?
Thanks for Your help

Not helping, I did the routine & still the same error message.
If I click OK to the error and scroll down, there is a list of installed programs, but no option to change or remove.
Any other thoughts, or should I just do a clean install?
Thanks
John

should I just do a clean install?
It does look like more is missing from the Windows 2000 core files than just those unregistered 3 files.
If you have everything backed up then a reinstall would probably be your fastest fix.

Remember thought that when you install from the CD you need to go to Windows Update a.s.a.p. after
the first boot up to get all the critical updates.

I think it's time to re install the OS. As I mentioned , I'm going to put in a larger hard drive anyway, Ill install the new drive & Win2k and install this drive as a slave & drag everything over that I want.
This operating system install was 3 1/2 yrs ago and has had several registry patches , time to start new.

Thanks for the input folks, what a great board.!
