Question Cannot Create a Internet Connection

A clear explanation of the problem you are having
  • What doesn't work: Dont have internet in a computer. When i connect my computer to router it doest detect anything.
  • What does works: I Connected the computer directly to the modem with a USB cable and entered control panel then Add new Hardware, there was "Cable Modem" i installed and internet worked, but it was a very short USB cable so my keyword is far away from computer
  • What you've tried: I tried installing a driver called "Realtek RTL8139/810x Family Fast Ethernet NIC" But a message appeard, something about a problem 10 or 28. i really dont remember i think 28 was when i tried to installed again.
A description of your network
  • Whether its dialup, cable, dsl : Cable.
  • Whether you have a router, and if you do then what model it is: The router is D-Link D-604
  • Do you have multiple PCs networked: 3 Including the one that doesnt work (so its not really networked) but thats the problem.
  • Is it wireless or not: Not.
  • Are you using Internet Connection Sharing (ICS): I dunno what that is. The 3 computers are connected to a router and the router to the Cable Modem.
The OS(s) you are using
  • Windows XP - No service pack ('cos i got no internet in the computer )
So what i want to know is what can i do to create a connection to internet because i tried installing drivers and i couldnt and im not so good at computers like you guys

Oh YeAh Btw... HaPpY NeW yEaR!!!!!

Something you might want to do first is to get your network adapter installed correctly. Look in device manager to see if your network card is listed. If you see it there look for a ! or ? beside it. If there is a ! or ? beside it then right click the adapter listed go to properities click that and a box will pop up. In that box look for Device Status and it should tell you if its working or if it's not and if not give you an error code. After you get the networke adapter working then the next step would be to connect the router and the cable modem with cat5 or "ethernet" cable. The modem plugs into the routers WAN port then plug that computer into port 1 on the router. Post back if you can get that far and some one can take you from there. This may need to be a multi post topic so hang in there and we will get you hooked up

Error code 10 usually means you need to update your driver.
Error code 28 usually means the driver was not completely installed

You might want to try and reinstall the driver. You should be able to download the drivers from http://www.realtek.com.tw/downloads/downloads.aspx
Make sure you have the correct driver and also make sure the adapter is connected properly. Put the model no. of your adapter in the keyword search box and then download the driver that matches your OS. In your case you said Windows XP.
