Windows 2000 Booting error

As my windows 2000 is loading up it brings up this message.

"16 bit ms-dos subsystem

C:\WINNT\System32\command.com
SYSTEM\Currentcontrolset\Control\VirtualDeviceDriv ers. VDD. Virtual device driver format in the registry is invalid. Choose close to terminate the application."

Could anyone please tell me what is wrong and how I can fix it?

Here are a couple of things to try. Take a look at this fix from MS.....
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/254914/EN-US/

A corrupt command.com can also cause this error. If that happens to be the case, then try this download and fix.....

If you have the updated servicepacks, you will have a servicepack folder. A copy of command.com will be in that folder. Copy it from ...
C:\winnt\servicepackfiles to c:\winnt\system32

You can also try a scannow to replace system files. Be sure that your system files are not hidden, by opening windows explorer>tools>folder options>view. Make sure that "show hidden files and folders" has a checkmark, and "hide protected operating system files" is UNchecked.

Go to start>run. Type in sfc /scannow. Have your 2000 disk handy, in case it asks for it.
