new issue, same basic problem.

I have had them linked, they can't see each other though. so i thought "ok, i have the protocols wrong" ok, protocols set right, ip's are ok. now, the desktop computer (running win2k pro) has link with the laptop (running win98), but, the laptop will not show link with the desktop? i don't know what to do. I've tried multiple reboots, redid the cable, i tested the cable on two other computers (which are both running winME, mind you.) and it worked fine. The source can't be my cable, (because it obviously works) the ip's are set correctly, and the protocols seem to be functioning correctly. The nic card in my laptop can search the internet when hooked up via a patch to the modem, but can't get the little "link" light to turn on when hooked up to the computer's nic card with the cross-over. I know that both computer's nic cards function, just i can't get them to function together. Please help, i'm all tattered about this question.

Thanks,

Gaylan

hmm...just thought of something, would the laptops nic card being half duplex do anything?
