Unhappy Right click shortcut problem.

Hi everyone,

Need some help here.Does anyone know how to delete a program that appears on the right click shortcut menu?I have the program pest patrol and Jasc paint installed and when I go to empty out my junk in my recylce bin I accidentally keep on hitting these 2 programs on my short cut menu instead of empty it goes empty with Jasc paint and pest patrol.

My thanks to all in advance
Christain

Hi MonteSSny - Removing entries from your rightclick context menu involves editing your registry. If you decide to try this, I strongly advise you to backup your registry before making any changes.

If the entry appears when rightclicking on files, navigate to

HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\*\shellex\ContextMenuHandlers

Click the the + sign next to the ContextMenuHandlers key to expand it. You will now be able to see some of the programs that have added items to your right-click menu. Simply delete the program keys you don't want.

To remove entries from the right click context menu of folders, you need to navigate to the below keys:

HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Folder\shellex\ContextMenuHandle rs
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Drive\shellex\ContextMenuHandler s

and follow the same procedure as outlined above for files.

*EDIT* Although I have retyped the above two registry keys twice, for some reason I cannot stop the last couple of letters spilling over to a new line???

Hey guys,

you can also download a freeware app called RegCleaner. It's a little easier for people unfamiliar with the registry. If you do download it, it has a 'new file' tab. That is where all the things in the right click subcontext menu are at.

Just somethign to add:
IF you want to ADD something to the send to menu under the right click menu you can go to
C:\WINDOWS\SendTo
And put a shortcut there to a program

That are in effect on the right click menu. But I found no program under the name Jasc Paint 7.04

Problem on happens to me when I right click my Recycle Bin (icon) . The rest of the files pointed on are ok.If anyone knows how to futher fix this I would greatly appreciate it.

Thanks again

Hi MonteSSny - as stated in my earlier post, to see and remove the programs listed in the context menu on a folder, you have to navigate to:

HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Folder\shellex\ContextMenuHandle rs
and
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Drive\shellex\ContextMenuHandler s

or you could try the option put forward by Dashwood95.
