Unhappy Lock-ups And Damaged Boot Area...please Help!!!

My computer recently started locking up when I log on to the internet. It only started doing this, after I started using Juno's paid-for premium service...(I used to have at&t, and never had this happen). Does anyone know if this could be a problem relating to Juno, or if there are any other causes for this? Also...a little more info...when it locks up, it COMPLETELY locks to where Ctrl+Alt+Del won't even work and I have to manually shut it down. When I restart, I use scandisk and it reports that my boot area is damaged or invalid, and I have it repair the error. This does not happen every time I get online, but probably about 2 out of 5 times. Please help if anyone has any info!
Thanks!

In case this turns into a hardware problem, you should start to make a backup of things you wouldn't want to lose, because if you lose the "front" part of your disk, you may lose everything that's on it.

If your computer worked fine when you had AT&T and started acting up when you switched to Juno, I suggest you return to AT&T. I subscribed to a service similiar to Juno and had the same problems. They don't have the server capacity to handle their clients. They just want your money without having to give anything in return.

Also, I had to reformat and reinstall all my programs because their software conflicted extremely bad with windows. I was glad to be rid of them. But, we live and learn. Hopefully you won't have to reformat. But I definately suggest you return to AT&T or another well known ISP service.

Hi PreciousAngel, welcome to Cyber Tech Help.

If you haven't done so, it might be a good idea to
update Windows98.

Open up Internet Explorer and in the menu under Tools
is Windows Update.

You want to get either IE5 SP2 or IE6 and after
those are installed and you've rebooted, return to Windows
Update and get every Critical Update showing in the
list.

Unhappy I thought it worked...but it didn't

Well, after downloading all the critical updates for my computer, I managed to log on twice with no appearent problems. But unfortunately, it is back to the same old thing...freezing up BAD when I attempt to get online. Getting online took me over a half an hour just now! Any other advice anyone has would be helpful. Thanks.

Smile I think I figured it out....

OK...I wanted to let you all know, that I believe I figured out what was going wrong. I have Mcaffee V-shield running usually as my anti-virus software. When I completely disabled Mcaffee, Juno seems to work just fine! I don't know if anyone has heard anything specific about Juno having incompatibilities with Mcaffee, but if so, please let me know. Thanks!
