Did you un-install the other one before installing the new one from device manager? If not it might be still listed in there and you will need to install driver for the new one. Right click on my computor/properties/device manager and look.

hi again...i did indeed uninstall the old cd drive first...but my computer still wont detect it.
I also tried to install it manually but every drive letter i type in doesn`t seem to hold any information about my hardware.(with installation disc in):hmm:

i did indeed uninstall the old cd drive first Just to be clear not just talking about physically removing it, did you take it out of device manager?

You didn't say what brand but don't think it makes any difference. Go to this site and follow those instructions. You may want to print it out then do what it says.

Now i`ve restarted my computer and half way through loading the prompt appears telling me:
TAE IL MEDIA CO., CD-ROM device driver, Rev V910V330
Device Name :MSCD001
No drives found, abort installation
There you have it....and on from this point it takes quite a while for it to continue loading, finally showing the desktop as if back to normal.

hi
run sysedit, and disable the lines for the CDROM driver in config.sys by putting a ; followed by a space in front of it
disable mscdex.exe line in autoexec.bat by putting REM followed by a space in front of it.
these TAE IL drivers are for your old drive, what you physically removed.

Do you have drivers for your new CD? What's the name brand of it?
