trouble getting to window setup

Something messed up a file i guess i needed to start windows. when i turn on the computer it starts up until about 1/4th of the way done and gives me a message that says which file was damaged and then

"you can attempt to repair this file by starting windows 2000 setup using the original setup floppy or CD-ROM.
Select 'r' at the first screen to appear.

1.) Im not sure where to press 'r' at because i havn't been able to get to the win2k setup yet
2.) can anyone else give me directions on how to get there a different way

Thanks a ton

Sorry about that.. From where I was sitting it looked like a "y" not an "r" !!

Boot the system using your Win2000 cd, and press "r" at the first screen, or use your ERD (Emergency Repair Disk - a floppy) that you were prompted to make during the Win2000 install procedure..

pressing the r key anywhere hasn't done anything yet so if i went to another computer and made a floppy, do you think that might work?

Did you boot using the Win2000 cd??

The ERD is normally specific to YOUR system and it MUST be a Win2000 ERD.. is it??

That should be the right cd.. Is the first boot option in BIOS set to the cd-rom??

Is this an original Microsoft cd and not one you or someone else made for you??

No problem with that as most companies will purchase a volume license.. However that normally means one original cd with a set number of licenses.. Haven't heard of too many operating system cd's being copied and used to install an os..

Are you that company or how did you happen to come in possession of it??

Most copied cd's are NOT self-booting..

I don't think that's quite kosher but I would be going for an original cd..

Computer won't boot from CD

Windows will not start because a file is either missing or corrupt. I know that I need to boot from the Windows 2000 CD to fix the file but I never get the option to boot from it. I have made the CD drive boot first but that didn't work. Does anyone know any reason why I am not getting the option to boot from a CD. Should I try and make floppys on another computer?
