OK, I picked up this ancient Dell Optiplex from a friend for 5 bucks...its got windows 95 on it, and most of the time, after it tweaks out over a few things while starting, the win95 bootscreen comes up, with the funny colored bars on the bottom...and heres where i start to get a bit suspicious...about every 5th bar, rather than being something between blue and gray, is either a nice bright green or red. I understand that we are near the christmas season, but I don't think it is a fit of holiday spirit causing my computers problems...

EDIT: forgot to say what the problem is lol
Anyway, once a few of these nicely colored bars make their way through, the movement down there freezes, and the computer will do nothing more. here endeth the lesson.
/EDIT

I would just format and reinstall windows, but I don't have the CD, which is a pity, I want to play hover lol

in any case, if anyone has any ideas beyond what mine are (just leaving it on the floor with cables hanging out of it here and there), that would be great.

its a really annoying system, i mean, the vga hookup is on a bloody pci card...dells those days lol...

but anyhow, any help would be great, i dont really see any use in the system except for to net it into the back of my main system (which is also having issues...see my post in the xp section lol), and use it as an 800mb backup ^_^

thx

You can try booting to DOS and at the prompt type in scanreg/fix I think that works in 95. If not then see if it will boot in safe mode. Tap the F8 key as it's booting to get to dos command or safe mode. It should give you a menu option

Lol I pretty much screwed myself over I wanted to use the drive with XP without thinking how small it was, so I formated it and then couldn't install XP to it because it was too small, so now I just ahve a blank drive and nothing to do with it :)

It might be big enough to install Win98 if you have a Win98 cd.
