cannot delete.....

hey i have beeen looking around for similar threads but cannot find any, which surprises me.

there are two similar problems:

-error message De237 in the recycle bin.
i havent found anything on the web and am assuming it is a normal thing. whenever i empty the recycle bin there are 67 files that wont go and are hidden but even when viewing hidden files they do not appear. was wondering if this is harmful to my pc

-cannot delete files from my external hdd
have had some corrupted files there for ages but cannot delete them or rename them. tried doin it from safe mode but no joy. tried zippin em but whatever i do the system cannot rename them. the text is like webdings or similar. all boxes or obscure punctuation marks. its non essential that i delete em but i cant defrag my hdd and it is probably overdue

Perhaps it's time to do a scandisk, these files might just be lost fragments.

thanks for the advice, it worked and those PIA files have gone but also deleted were aunt bessies recipes. bummer! i dont cook and i havent got any recipes-well i didnt have any anyway
