I am using Partition Commander and want to move some programs to the new partition. I have no idea how to do this or if I can without messing up everything.

Thanks,
Misty

Hi Misty. I have never heard of Partition Commander but although there a few programs out there that claim to be able to do it, it is not always possible to simply move applications from one drive letter to another.
More often than not, the only way to succesfully do this is uninstall from C: and reinstall to D: (or whatever).

Smurfy, thanks for replying to my post. I guess I won't be moving anything. I sure don't want to mess things up and from what you said it would. I wanted to move Neverwinter Nights, a game I am playing, to it's own partition. I will just leave it where it is and any other games will be installed to the new partition. At least now I know that I shouldn't install anything I want on a different partition unless I create the partition first.

Partition Commander allows you to partition your hd and not loose anything (hopefully) you have installed. You can allocate free space and it will set up a separate partition for the swap file. It is similar to PartitionMagic.

Thanks again for your help.

Hi, There is an easy way to do this but you need to download a program called COA2 from PC magazine. You can get to it through ZDNet.

It does not transfer the files but alters all the registry items so that they work properly.

I transferred my Program File Folder from D to the F partition and then used COA2 and sat back while it altered the registry.

There are a lot of entries that have to be changed so if you are transferring more than a couple of programs you will have to wait while it does it's jobs.

Once it altered the entries I just deleted the D partitions Program Files Folder and all went perfectly.

PC Magazine have a lot of other interesting programs for free.

COA stand for Change of Address . That is what the program does it does not actually transfer any files at all. You have to do that. Peace Mal

MAL1930, thanks so much for replying. I just want to move one program, it is my game, to a partition for games only. I will go download the program and see how it works. I was hoping there was a way to do this. I didin't want to loose my progress in the game by uninstalling and reinstalling to a different partition.

Thanks again,
Misty:)
