why is it that sometimes when I click a shortcut (left button on mouse) I get the properties of that icon, instead of the opening of the application.
Eg. Presently when I click the desktop shortcut, I get the show desktop properties menu and stuff. I then I have to right click and select open to get what I planned for.
Thanks for listening, pete

Hi petertwelves12, welcome to the forum
Don't really have an answer to your problem, but It could be that someone/something has reversed the button function. Or the mouse is defective.
If you have a software app that goes with the mouse enter it and make sure the the button selection is what you want. Other than these suggestions I am afraid I have not experienced this. If not, just the windoz app click on the mouse in the Control Panel and make sure the button function is as you want it.
One other thing you could try is use a known functioning mouse and see if it works properly.
Post back with the type of mouse and puter details and perhaps someone else will have other suggestions for you.

I've had the problem where no matter what I left click on the menu comes up as if I've right clicked it. From my experience its because my computer has been on too long. When I restart the computer the problem is solved. I don't know if this will solve your problem but its easy to find out. :)
Actually I think I need to get off my lazy buns and remove the computer cover. I think excessive dust accumalation can also be the cause in that the comps temperture is higher than it should be.
Hope this helps.

For the Properties problem, check to see that the alt button is not stuck.
