Windows 98 loads OK to windows logon. Once I logon the start button briefly (very briefly) shows and then the desktop shows cutomized desktop with flashing cursor that does nothing. This has happened twice now on 2 separate win 98 computers after loading a program that has hung in the process. I cannot uninstall the program cause I cannot get to the start button. Any help would be appreciated. :dizzy:

Boot your computer to safe mode and then open add/remove programs and remove the program in question. Or, open start/programs and find installed program and see if an uninstall is in that folder and then use it instead of add/remove.

Hi Nick,
The problem is there is no start or any programs - just the customized blank desktop

Boot to safe mode by tapping the F8 key as it's booting until you hear a beep, then a menu box should open with several choices, choose safe mode.

I can easily boot to safe mode but the same thing happens - it opens up with no items on the desktop, no start, no icons - nothing just the desktop & the curser. The curser does nothing / right / left click also nothing. I booted to DOS & deleted the program that I had installed but that did not help either.
HELP!

Try this---boot to DOS again and type in scanreg/fix If that doesn't do it then you might try re-installing windows over itself
