Exclamation I desperately need help

I have a 10 yr old ibm desktop, the problem that I am experiencing with it is the internet, I go on and it is as slow as can. To get from site to site takes at least 2 minutes. It also doesn't allow me to download anything (like my antivirus, aim, etc...) when I try to press the download button on any downloadable item nothing happens. I honestly don't think that the pc is infected by viruses because of the fact that everything but the internet is fast. My point that I am that I am trying to say is I want to know if I can easily make by dial-up internet go faster. And to be able to download stuff thanks in advance!

Who is your ISP? Do a speed test and let me know what your actual speeds are. There are a couple good ones here:

Hey sorry I took a long time replying; I really think that my pc is messed up because I tried the sites you had for the speed tests and a few more speed test sites and what basically happened with the ones I tried is that in the middle of the testing processs It would stop and say that I have a "bad key" which is what I think the dsl one said since I can't get info off that is there any other things that I could do?

Thanks

Your options are kind of limited I think with a 10 year old PC and a bad dial up connection. Who is your ISP though? Do you have acces to another computer that can get online? If so, there are a couple utilities you can download for spyware or virus checks to make sure that isn't the problem.

which one do you have? DSL or dial up?

Did the slowness just start or was it always slow?

Explanation of bad key error

If it was fast then got slow and just happened try this ---boot to DOS--type in at the prompt scanreg/restore restore to a date when it was working

If that doesn't do it then I would call my service provider if you are only having slowness while online
