I have taken all the steps through regedit, yet when I come to the last one....it is not there.

Explorer is the last step, which I don't have!

What can I do now?

Thanks for any help!

Hello Confused Mom
hope you've 'deleted' your step-sons user profile. if not, with windows98 i have found the program 'tweakui' to be of great help. i'm not sure where this tool can be downloaded from [it is a microsoft developers 'gift' to the public].
once downloaded [DL'd], create a new folder on your drive [ie: c:\ptoy ] and unzip the DL'd file to this new folder. you can use whatever means you know to find this new folder. then look for a file named 'tweakui.inf' and install it [perhaps a dble-click or just right-click and choose 'install'. this will create an icon in the control panal ['tweak ui'] open this up and you'll find an option for the user profiles.
Cheers

TweakUI is in the Unofficial Win98SE Service Pack,
which I have downloaded and installed and like on
my computer.

Tweakui should do it also but for regedit:
Start/run/regedit

Start the Registry Editor (Start, run then type regedit)
Go to HKEY_CURRENT_USER \ Software \ Microsoft \ Windows \ CurrentVersion \ Policies \ Explorer (everytime you click one open, another will show up until you get down to Explorer.
Right-click an open area in the right pane and select New > DWORD Value
Name it NoLogOff (Type it exactly as ahown)
Double-click this entry and add the value 1
Exit RegEdit and restart WindowsI take it you have not messed with the registry much? This is really pretty simple to follow. When you open HKEY_CURRENT_USER all kinds of choices will open. Just open next in line, Software, then Microsoft, when you get to Explorer, follow directions above.
