As of today, I have 43 days until I hit 18 (oh joyous day!). But there's certain obligations I need to fulfill...
One is signing up for the draft. An American duty. =P
The other is registering to vote. I'm really an unaware person (as most of you might have guessed =P), and confused on top of it all! My mom and step-dad are really Democratic, and my Dad and step-mom are quite the Republicans. I was always kinda leaning towards Republican, but I wanted to definately make sure before I make any decisions.
So... maybe not a debate, but could some (or all, most likely =P) of you members give me some of the pros and cons of the parties? Bills they've supported and are against, friends with what associations, blah blah blah. I'll be reading all the posts. =)
My little cousin's staying over tonight, so I probably won't be on much... but I do promise to read every post, and to take each one into consideration. =) Again, thank you for your time and input!

Hehe, I know I can be hard-headed at times... thinking that I always know best... but I'm really in the dark here on Dem and Rep. Here's some of the things my parents have told me...
Dem is for the more common people. Big gov't, so they help out with programs. Wanna tax the rich more than the poor.
Rep is the opposite kinda... They want a smaller gov't, and limit some "unneccesary" programs. Flat tax for them.
I probably know a lil more, but not much... I think Rep is pro-abortion? Any input is greatly appreciated. =)

Vote labour mate, Tony's not perfect but how can anyone vote Conservative at what Maggie did to this country? SHE SOLD THE NATURAL GAS AND CLOSED THE MINES - how stupid was that.
OK, your in the states. Dunno what to suggests, but Arnie didnt exactly cover his party in glory executing an allegedly blind, disabled 70+ year old.
Listen to what uncle Beanie said. Don't grow up, it's not too much fun. Stay young inside, it's particularly good fun when your earning big bucks ;)

You can register in Pennsylvania as "unaffiliated." You cannot vote in a primary, since they are party primaries, but you can vote in general elections.
Where I live, I can declare a party at the polls at primaries and then vote in that primary. Then I go down to the courthourse and change back to unaffiliated. Drives the elections official nuts, of course.
If you ever decide you want to declare a party, you can. If you later decided you want to change parties or go back to unaffiliated, you can.

That's some good news! What about the common (amongst my friends) Green Party? I might just sign up for that. =P ^_^

Well the bush admin. didn't do any thing that is listed above. they said that they would cut programmes and lower the defict but in fact they added new programmes and raised the deficit all will raising the taxes on the poor and strugling middle class.:curse: If you can tell I am a diehard democrate, but then I live in the boonies (Minnesota)

After reading Degsy's link, I can't see why Arnie's government should get a slap on the wrist, when the supreme courts had overturned any pleas. Laws are laws whether you like them or not. Had Arnie "turned over" the case, he'd have lost a lot more "respect" simply because he'd be going against his States laws.

The advice from the wise ones. And as time goes by, you'll see more of it and hear more of it (reference to tasteless image removed by Jintan).

Thats ok then, so you can have ultimate responsibility for putting to death a person who has no chance of re-offending and walk away with a clean conscience. Isn't the last line of appeal for clemency the state governer?
This is more to do wih Arnie not using his discretion to grant a pardon as it would give ammunition to those trying to bring him down. I understand from family in SF and Palm Springs that he has a fairly delicate balance of power at the moment.

No. The State Supreme court can overturn a death sentence and then can be turned over the the U.S. Supreme Court. The governor is the middle man to speak the decisions.
