Hi, I'm having trouble  with this error on the title when I try to open Maya7.0. I have some other applications such as 3D Studio max and Shake, they are working fine. I saw other people have similer problems on the site so I followed their steps. I ran spyware programs to get rid of some virus with Spyware Cleaner and Norton Anti Virus so I believe there is no virus on my computer. Then, I downloaded Hijack This and ran it in the safe mode. Now I have hijack this log ready to show you. I'm still unable to open Maya7.0. :curse: :curse: :curse: Please let me know what to do. thank you.

Hi AnnMarie,

I ran Hijack This one more time to make sure everything is updated. Earlier I went through the log and found one that looks suspicious with no name,

O9 - Extra button: (no name) - {08B0E5C0-4FCB-11CF-AAA5-00401C608501} - C:\Program Files\Java\jre1.5.0_06\bin\ssv.dll

let me know if this is causing big problem or not. my internet browser crashes very often now.

Here's the log. Please check it and let me know what to do next. I really really really appreciate your help, thank very very much!!!:rotflmao:

Hi machoman, I would like to see another type of log as well please. Go here (http://www.silentrunners.org/) and download Silent Runners.vbs to your Desktop (use IE) and run it. It generates a log too. Please post the information back in this thread. If your AV queries the script, allow it to run. It's not malicious

Thank you for your reply, AnnMarie. I downloaded and ran Silent Runner. I got a lot of Anti Virus queries, thought. Here's the script I got. I hope I did it right.

"Silent Runners.vbs", revision 43, http://www.silentrunners.org/
Operating System: Windows XP
Output limited to non-default values, except where indicated by "{++}"

Yep most AV's dont like vbs files but this one is fine. :)

Wait until Silent Runners has finished scanning and repost the log. It will popup up and tell you when it has finished.

OK, I think I did it right this time. ;) Please take a look at it and let me know what you think. Thank you

That log looks ok. Your Hijack This log only show essential services running. Did you run it in Safe Mode? If so, please post another log after running HJT in normal mode.

Yes, I ran HJT in Safe Mode for the first HJT log. Here's normal version of HJT I just ran.

Now everytime I get on line I end up getting some virus so I keep running Spyware Cleaner very often. Is this usual? thank you.

No and I recommend that you uninstall Spyware Cleaner just as fast as you can. See Mark Russinovich's blog here (http://www.sysinternals.com/Blog/). Scroll down to "The Antispyware Conspiracy" January 3. It may also be causing your problems. Reboot afterwards and let us know if this made any difference.

BTW, if it made backups, restore those before uninstalling it.

ok, I restored backup, uninstall Spyware Cleaner, and reboot my computer. then I ran Norton Anti Virus scan, get no result of any virus. But internet is still crashing when I try to open 4 or 5 web sites at the same time. :hmm: I will try some more to see if there's any difference.

I made backup on Jan/19/06 and installed the Spyware Cleaner after the backup. I don't think I have another backup and this was my first time to do it. Anyway, I think weird things had been already happening on my computer before I made the backup. Also, I remember another virus dialog box popped up before the backup so I followed the instruction, download and install this program, Repair Registry Pro on Jan/11/06. I'm not sure if this program is safe or not. :hmm:

I'm still unable to open Maya7.0 at this point. Who do you think has the most trusted and reliable anti virus protection program? One time I ran both Norton Anti Virus and the Spyware Cleaner. Spyware Cleaner detected some virus whereas Norton did none.

By the way, thank you for helping me out. ;)

Spyware Cleaner detected some virus whereas Norton did none.

That might be because you had no viruses. Did you read Mark's blog?

Sorry machoman but I am not familiar with Repair Registry Pro so I cannot comment. There is a danger in running all registry cleaners though. Unless you know what you are doing and can say yes or no to the removal of items, mistakes can be made.

Can you post a new Hijack This log now that you have restored the changes that Spyware Cleaner made please.

I read Mark's blog breifly because I wanted to reply to you quickly, will go over throughly later. I will be careful when I tough the Registry Pro.

Should I post safe mode version of HJT log or normal mode version or both?

Here's new HJT log in normal mode. If you need Safe Mode version, please let me know. ;)

I cannot see much in the way of problems in your log machoman.

Go to Start > Run and type services.msc and OK. Look for the below service:

Power Manager (PowerManager) - C:\WINNT\svchost.exe (file missing)

When you find it, stop it if it is running, doubleclick on it and change the startup type to disabled.

If that doesnt help with your problems, I would suspect that either Spyware Cleaner or the registry cleaner that you have run has deleted critical keys or values from your registry.

Your best bet is to try a repair install. See here (http://www.michaelstevenstech.com/XPrepairinstall.htm) for more help.

Unfortunately, Power Manager with the start up disabled didn't solve my problem. Repair Install looks serious process so I will check it thoroughly and take my time to do it. I also need to find a way to store backup outside of my computer. Meantime I need to take some rest so will let you know the result later. ;) ;) Thank you so much for your help. I really appreciate it;) ;)

PS: Should I change the Power Manager start up back to Automatic?

PS: Should I change the Power Manager start up back to Automatic?

No it's a malware service. Leave it disabled and open HijackThis again and click on Config > Misc Tools. Click on 'Delete an NT Service'

Copy and paste:

PowerManager

in the dialogue box and click 'OK'. Reboot afterwards.

Good luck with the repair machoman. :)

Hi AnnMarie,
I left it disabled. I have a couple of questions for you prior to the repair. I fonund WPA.DBL file in the windows\system32 to make a copy in differnt place but cannot find WPA.BAK file, I tried the search tool. Does it matter? Also, for the backup copies of my registry files, is the %systemroot%\Repair the same as C:\WINNT\repair?

How can I change the boot order to boot the XP CD first before the hard drive? thank you

Hi machoman, I reviewed your thread today and I see that I didnt suggest uninstalling and reinstalling Maya7.0. Have you tried this? If not, uninstall Maya7.0 from Add/Remove Programs in Control Panel and reboot. Go online now and let me know if you still have problems with your browser crashing. If so, which browser are you using?

When you have done this, shut down all running programs including Norton and reinstall Maya7.0. Reboot and see if you can open the program now.

Ok, I will uninstall Maya7.0 since I haven't done it yet. Do I still need to do the repair install? I've been using SBC DSL Ineternet Explorer.

Hold off on the repair just for now machoman. Let's see how we go with the uninstall first. Perhaps also try another browser and see if you still have a problem online. Firefox (http://www.mozilla.com/firefox/) is very popular.

Hi AnnMarie,
I've been having hectic schedule lately and finaly got a chance to work on my computer. I tried to uninstall Maya7.0 but it wouldn't let me do it. I got 2 dialog boxes.

#1 Maya7.0
The InstallScript engine on this machine is older than the version required to run this setup. If available, please install the latest version of ISScript.msi, or contact your support personnel for further assistance.

#2 Add or Remove Program
Fatal error during installation

Do you have any suggestion? I tried FireFox and have no problems at all but still have the same problem with Internet Explorer. thank you.

Hmmm, ok, try reinstalling Maya7.0 first and then uninstalling it. Make sure that you are logged in with Admin permissions.

See if this (http://consumer.installshield.com/kb.asp?id=Q108158) article helps machoman.

I followed the steps in the InstallSheild site, but don't see version tab in the setup.exe. I found this, ScriptVer=7.4.0.377 in the setup.ini(note pad). Do you think that is the right version number? thank you.

AnnMarie
February 1st, 2006, 08:41 AM
Probably but look for an extracted setup.exe in your Temp folder. See here (http://consumer.installshield.com/kb.asp?id=Q108322).

I didnt' see an appropriate version #, but found this file in the same directory, instmsiw.exe with version 11.20.1827.0. Also, there are 5 files with extension msi in the same directoy. What do you think? thank you

Not much help I'm afraid. I have done some research and it seems that there was an Installsheild v7.4.0.377. Try downloading and running IsScript7x.zip according to the intructions in the link I posted and then try reinstalling Maya7.0.

machoman
February 3rd, 2006, 08:47 AM
:hmm: ... I downloaded Isscript7zip, unzipped it and tried reinstalling Maya7.0. It didn't work. :hmm: I got the same two dialog boxes again. :hmm: Should I try the other zip files with different version #?

No, I had a look back at your logs and I see that Maya has corrupted. There is a file missing:

O23 - Service: Maya 7.0 Documentation Server (maya70docserver) - Unknown owner - C:\Program Files\Alias\Maya7.0\docs\wrapper.exe" -s "C:\Program Files\Alias\Maya7.0\docs\Wrapper.conf (file missing)

If we cannot reinstall it, it will have to be removed manually which is a big job.

It may be causing your other problems too. Let's find out. Go to Start > Run and type services.msc and OK. Look for the below service:

Maya 7.0 Documentation Server (maya70docserver) - C:\Program Files\Alias\Maya7.0\docs\wrapper.exe

When you find it, stop it if it is running, doubleclick on it and change the startup type to disabled.

Reboot and see if you still have problems with your browser crashing. It's possible that you still might be this darn program installs it's own java runtime environment.

This is weird. I stopped the service and changed the startup type to disabled, then I hit restart button, there was nothing happened. It didn't turn off itself. I hit turn off button and nothing happened. IE is still funny.

Ok, well at this point I doubt that even a repair install of XP will help. It looks like Maya7 is the culprit and repairing XP is not going to help.

What you have to decide now, is whether or not you want to try uninstalling Maya7 manually or backup your data and do a clean install (http://www.michaelstevenstech.com/cleanxpinstall.html) of XP. Uninstalling manually involves removing as many registry entries as possible (I will help you with this) and deleting the files. To be honest, it's possible that you may have to do a clean install anyway if we are not completely successful in getting rid of Maya7.

machoman

Alright, Maya7.0 is the culprit:curse: , huh!!! Let's get rid of this guy!!! It would be great to get help from you. By the way, I didn't upgade to XP SP2. Should I upgrade to SP2 first? Also How can I turn this computer off from the start menu now? thank you.

AnnMarie
February 4th, 2006, 11:26 PM
No dont upgrade yet. Let's see if we can get rid of Maya7 first.

How can I turn this computer off from the start menu now? thank you.

Try re-enabling the Maya service that you disabled and see if you can turn it of now. If not, tell me what happens when you try to shutdown.

Ok, lets get started. Go here (http://www.billsway.com/vbspage/) and download, unzip and run the Registry Search Tool. Type Maya in the dialog box. Let it run and after a few minutes, a prompt will appear. Click OK to write the results to Notepad and post them.

Question for you, I unzipped Registry Search Tool and hit the run button, but I have virus alert dialog box right now, "Malicious script detected". Should I allow the activity once?

AnnMarie
February 5th, 2006, 03:35 AM
Yep, it's fine to run. Most AV's dont like vbs files as many viruses are transmitted in this format but that file is fine. :)

Is there any way I can email 176963 characters? I got that many and can't send them all at once...

AnnMarie
February 5th, 2006, 09:12 AM
Awww, the limit per post here is 20,000 characters and that takes up a lot of space.

I am really sorry machoman but I really dont have the time to wade through the equivalent of nearly nine posts of registry entries. Try sending an email to Maya support (if they have one) and see if they can help you or consider a clean install.

machoman
February 5th, 2006, 07:01 PM
ok, I will check the clean install and try it out if it's good. Thank you very very much for spending your time on my problem and helping me out. ;)

AnnMarie
February 6th, 2006, 12:07 AM
You are welcome machoman. I'm really sorry about the Maya issue but with that volume of registry entries, it really is not a good idea to attempt a manual uninstall. Maya support may have a utility that will uninstall their program. Some software vendors do provide this facility. :)
