If your computer has a DVD writer, it should have come with software. If it's not installed (should be on the Start Menu somewhere), look through the disks that came with your computer for it.

What you want to do...transfer a movie from a DVD onto the harddrive...is called "ripping." There's a tutorial at http://www.divx-digest.com/articles/dvdrip_tute.html.

what format is it in? Microsoft movie maker can, if the format is supported, allow you to make a new movie file with just the one clip. Don't expect cristal clear quality though.
