Around what floor do you give in and take the elevator instead of the stairs? Excluding the times when you're carrying large objects.

I'd say if I had to go to the 8th floor I would probably start taking the elevator..

I prefer to use a lift, they only have elevators in other countries and I can't afford the airfare to get there.

I would use the elevator anytime... even if it's just for one floor~ They're so much fun, ya know? Weeee!

Elevators make me nervous. Besides there are no buildings over 8 stories where I live, except the old folks home which is 10 (I know, it's insane).

Does this also exclude the times you are unable to climb stairs, because it happens to me enough. I believe I've been on crutches 7 times so far. :(

I'd probably use it after around 7 or 8 stories (or less if I'm feeling lazy and nobody else needs it), but I don't go in many buildings that big. There are some near me, but none that I go to often. Sometimes, though, the stairs are being occupied, and you don't exactly want to go up stairs next to them, so then I use the elevator.

depends upon what I am carrying and who is with me. I have no problems with elevators.

Reminds me -- Many years ago I was a honor society convention for college students. We were on the first floor and decided to see how many we could get into the elevator. We were packed like sardines. I was way in the back against the wall. Most of us needed to go to the 23rd floor so thats the number we hit. Instead of going up, we went down-straight down to the second basement, smelled something burning, and hit bottom. We were able to forced the doors open and had to step up about 2 feet to get out. Everyone took off in all directions like roaches. It was fun - at least until you think of what could have happened. All I got to say was I am glad we were not on the 23 floor and wanted to go down...The bad thing was, the elevator was out of order for rest of the weekend.

Although more strenuous, taking the stairs is more relaxing to most people than the elevator. Seems most people have the fear of a cable breaking and such in the back of their mind when in an elevator. I've never dwelled on it but I have caught myself wondering while in the elevator. Too much tv me thinks. :)

Unless I'm carrying a load, I'm not patient enough to wait on the elevator.
Around here buildings are not that tall, so 4-5 stories is easy. Hospital elevators are so slow, I definately take to the stairs.
I have, though, climbed the Washington Monument (887 stairs, closed now) probably a dozen times. Must admit I was a little younger then. But I'd still give it a go if it were possible.

just remember, some places will make you take an elevator. I was in the local federal building the other day and the guards would not let me take the stairs and its only a three story building

I always use the lift no matter how many floors. Maybe in the multi-storey car park I'd use the stairs rather than wait if it wasn't too many floors up but anywhere else - not likely.
