Hello,

I have a beautiful refurbished laptop that was my pride and joy that I never let my children use, it is installed with windows 95, well it was, anyway my teenage son went and installed a copy of Windows XP Home Edition to my laptop, this is a legal CD that I used to upgrade my Desktop computer. Anyway from my understanding when you upgrade a laptop you are supposed to use Windows that are specifically made for a laptop, but thats not my question what I want to do is restore it back to Windows 95 the way that it was, I have the recovery CD that came with my laptop but it wont get pass the part after I type in <agree>, it has a sheet with directions. I am so upset. I dont know what to do. Nothing is pirated I have all orginal CDs for everything. Can someone help. I want to downgrade not upgrade. My son really messed it up because not only did he upgrade it with something that is to powerful for my older laptop, he used a CD that was for Desktops only. Can this problem be fixed.

Is it not possible for you to uninstall the XP and reload Win 95?

setting aside the EULA for the moment, you can install XP to any pc or laptop that meets XP minimum system requirements.

you say you cant get past "agree"- are you getting any error messages?
a few more details about your laptop may be helpful too- make, model.

Yes I am getting an error message, let me try it again, hold on just one second so I can see what it says.okay it says

A>cd WIN9x
Invalid directory
A>mesetup.bat
Bad command or file name
A>mssetup.bat
Bad command or file name
A>cd WIN95
Invalid directory
A>mesetup.bat
Bad command or file name
A>mssetup.bat
Bad command or file name
A>cd i386

A>xpsetup.bat

A>

This is what is running down a black screen when the directions say that the PC will automatically format my hard drive and reload the operating system. But instead of doing that it just stays on this screen.

Yikes.......

Can you boot to safe mode? If you can go into control panel/add/remove programs and try to remove it from there.

If not then you might have to format it.

You might also try booting with the XP CD and see if it will you the option to un-install it.
