Okay i have DSL with close to 300k down and 200k up and jsut recently i have been having problems. Everytime i stop using the net. (i.e. close out of internet explorer or just get out of a game that i have been playing on the net) i lose my connection... i can't surf the web or find any servers in my games. I have talked to my net provder 3 times and they have replaced my dsl modem once and also gave me "tech support" which didn't help any... I recently formatted my computer as to reduce clutter and i am wondering if that did anything... I have a Kingston networking card and wouldn't think anything is wrong with it... but if anyone can help me please do!!

Hi Hellion29, welcome to Cyber Tech Help.
Disconnects via ADSL are going to come from a few sources...
ISP
Auto disconnect setting, from an old dial-up account left as default
Outlook is set to disconnect after it checks for email.
You may have a Trojan back door residing on your computer
...Fixes
ISP = nothing you can do if they say everything is OK...
but you can create a *.bat file that pings the server and then use
the scheduler to run it every 5 minutes. This will keep the server
honest if the problem lays with them.
Auto disconnect = delete the dial-up account and enable the LAN
Outlook = disable hang up when finished...etc
Trojan = go over all startup programs and look for nefariousness (bad things)
...Other things to ensure you've done
Update WindowsXX (install all critical updates)
Install software firewall
Update virus checking software
Game connection sites and IRC (Internet Relay Chat) are pretty
infamous for giving some users disconnects. It seems, for IRC, that
disconnecting peoples connections is a popular thing to do.
For game sites...disconnections are popular because some gamers
are always looking for more speed and they think disconnecting
users will get them more frames/per-second.
