repairing network connection
I have 2 computers networked by a crossover cable. The one with the internet access (satellite) and printer is running win2k and the other is running xp home. My problem is that whenever I shut down either computer I must repair the network connection on the xp machine for it to be able to use the printer or see the 2000 machine. I still have internet access. I have the 2000 machine ip address set to 192.168.0.1, subnet 255.255.255.0 and the xp machine set to get one automatically. What do I do??

The win2k box is this the one which is sharing out the internet connection and printer ?
You could just give the XP box the IP 192.168.0.2 (same subnet) therefor when you restart the win2k box it won't need to wait for it's old IP to be renewed. If you're only using 2 PCs on the network using static IPs is easier.

You are correct in thinking that the Win2k machine has the internet access and printer. That seemed to work for my LAN but now I cannot get online on the XP machine. Is there anything else I need to do now to enable that? I have ICS enabled on the network card that connects to my SAT modem and I have let Zone Alarm allow my home network.

I just tried to ping my ICS enabled NIC and I cannot reach it. I don't know if this info helps or not.
