Hi so a few days ago, on my other computer (same router) , I was just browsing the internet when all of a sudden my computer restarted. After I booted it up, it took a very long time to get to a screen which listed off a bunch off options such as : Start Windows Normally - Start Windows in safe mode - Start Windows in Safe Mode with networking prompt etc. I tried a few of these various options and after about 6 different tries and waiting about 10 minutes for my usually fast computer to load, I got to the windows login screen. A few of my programs like steam (Counter-Strike) would not load and I noticed that I had no internet connectivity aswell as having no IP address. My internet had been working fine and another computer on the same network as mine was working fine. When I try to open MSN Messenger or the internet I get a message that I have no IP address and when typing in ipconfig into run I get nothing.

The error message I receive when trying to open steam is this:
"Steam.exe (main exception): Win32 StructuredException at 100B3B47: Attempt to read from virtual address 0 without appropriate access rights"

Prior to this my computer was running smoothe with the exception of a few random restarts which I had been accustomed to. One last thing would be I've noticed that my computer takes at least 20 times longer to load up than usual.
Thank you for reading my story and any advice would be much appreciated as this is causing me much headaches.

Sounds like a more serious error than a network problem.

It could be that you got a virus, but it sounds more that you had a serious error and it has corrupted the install.

Check in the Device Manager to see that everything is installed and working correctly.

So I went to Device Manager, and there appear to be three things under the Network Adapters tab that have big yellow exclaimation marks over them - Ethernet Controller, VIA Rhine II Fast Ethernet Adapter and WAN Miniport (L2TP). As well I decided that fixing was going to be too much of a hassle so I tried to begin reformatting but I set the CD to #1 boot priority and it still would not boot from disk.
