Hi everyone,
OK, I got myself a Speedtouch 585 Wi-Fi Router & USB Adapter (121g). I'm with Tiscali broadband and as my Linksys wouldn't connect to the web, i thought id go get something that tiscali sells and recommends.

So, i set it up last night but had a problem. The router set up no problem, I can get on the web using the Ethernet lead . I installed the wireless adapter but it wont connect to the router. All the lights are on, it can see the router (in the networks in range field) but when I click on connect to it, it does its thing (like its connecting) then says unable to connect. I've checked the encryption code is the same (even tried without encryption), also used a Linksys card. That done the same thing, it could see the network but couldn't connect. It just says unable to connect to my home network , go see my Administrator! :curse:

Any ideas as I've followed the install, but I just cant get it to connect and see anything wrong.

Thanks.

Are you using the wireless software that came with the wireless adapter or are you using the built in Windows Wireless zero config? Do you have WEP or WPA enable on the router? You may want to try at first with WEP or WPA off just for testing then turn it on later when you know you can get basic conectivity. Do you have MAC filtering enable if is it set to block a list of MAC addresses or only allow a list of MAC addresses? If its set to only allow these MAC addresses make sure your laptop's MAC is listed and that its correct. Under the wireless tab make sure its set to mixed and if there are many networks in your area you may want to change the channle to either 1 or 11.

All sorted !
After going through 3 installs/uninstalls of the USB adapter, i noticed that just as the pc was getting ready to shutdown for a reboot, a Norton Internet popup opened and said ' a USB device is atempting to connect to the web' connection blocked. So i checked the popup as enable always. PC rebooted, and what do you know, i have wireless internet. All this F ing around because norton took it upon itself to block the conection without telling me.
Well i'm sorted, hope this can help others !!
Thanks for the help.
Gary.

OK, now this too much, the USB adapter will only connect to the router when its set to no encrypton. Yes i've checked that the router and adapter are on the same encrypton nas same password key. Not encryped, no problem... Encrypted, cant get a signal.
HELP !

Might be a good idea to see if there is an update in driver and firmware for that usb adapter as well as the router.
