dont know why 1 comp wont connect

HELP I'm new at this job and the network is old as dirt!(cat 3 cables yayyy)
A clear explanation of the problem you are having
ok i work with an SBS 2000 network and my boss brought in a computer from an offsite jobsite and i cannot get it to see my network, it runs windows 2000 with no updates.
What doesn't work
when i run ipconfig it gives me an ipadress but no DNS and no gateway
What does works
have switched out network cards and both seem to be functioning fine, our network runs fine with all the other comps(a few of which run windows 2000)
What you've tried
switched network cards, tried changing locations and cables,
changed network ID, its set to a workgroup and when i try to set it to a domain instead(our domain) it gives me the error "the specified domain either does not exist or could not be contacted"
A description of your network
run sbs2000, its not wireless, windows 2000

The domain failure is to be expected, if it doesn't have a valid IP. So lets tackle the IP/DNS/gateway problem first.

Is the problem machine configured to have a static IP or to obtain it dynamically? How are the rest of the PCs configured?

under lan settings nothing is checked, this is like the other computers, i believe they all have dynamic ip address'

Under lan settings where? Are you talking about the TCP/IP protocol properties for the connection? Is 'Obtain an IP address automatically" selected?

in internet prop. under the connections tab is says lan settings, thats the one im talkin about. I have tried checking and unchecking the "obtain an IP address automatically" neither seems to work. the rest of the pc's do not have that or any other option in the box checked.
