ME and USB ports

Hello there,
I just bought my girlfriend an MP3 player but it won't recognise it on her computer (Windows ME). Thinking it might be a problem with the player I tried two more players and three pen drives - all say they are compatible with ME - none work. The response is the same for all devices. First 'found new hardware' then this is followed by 'set up could not find a file on the specified path'.
Does anyone have any ideas please?

Wow..this forum is amazing..I just joined because my local friendly PC engineer failed to resolve my Windows ME/USB problem so I logged on and found this..

my only problem is that I cannot seem to get hold of this Hotfix..my computer suppliers/manufacturers don't want to know..if I call Microsoft on Monday morning will they be able to get it to me?
thanks

GREAT NEWS!!
I had one of those Newtonian moments (well maybe not as momentous but you know)..I accidentally re-booted my PC with the MP3 player still plugged in and when it re-started it recognised it, gave it a drive letter at last (E) and proceeded to work like a dream with my memory stick etc..pure luck but all now well...give it a try mate...
