I have a Dell Dimension 4100 that needed to be reformatted (bad virus and things just not right). Used the floppy to format and used the supplied Dell Window ME recovery CD, and the Dell driver CD. I've gone thru and updated all the drivers for everything using the Device Manager, but the computer still says that I have a Standard PCI card under the Display Adapter. The Device is actually an ATI RAGE 128 PRO. I've tried everything from trying to change the device in the Device Manager over to ATI to downloading drivers online, but NOTHING is working!!! I'm just stuck with this Generic Driver and 640x480 resolution and 16 bit color. Can someone help me before I totally go crazy with this??? Thanks in advance.

Hello louise, welcome to CTH.
Are these the drivers you tried to install?

Thanks so much, you saved my sanity!! But now for the audio, I can hear it but it's pretty quiet. I have the volume controls turned up, have tried to reinstall the drivers for it, with no luck, and even lost it all together, so I had to do a system restore to get it back as best I could. It says in the sound and multimedia properties that it is a Creative AudioPCI (ES1371,ES1373) (WDM) (if that helps). Got any ideas of why it would be so quiet?

Go into the Control Panel, look for Sounds and Multimedia.
Click on Icon and when it opens look toward the bottom and make sure the "Show volume control on task bar" is checked then click apply.
Check to make sure the volume is all the way up.
There will be a small speaker on the taskbar. If you left click it will open up and you can adjust the slide up or down. If you right click you can open volume controls which allows you to adjust for a number of items. Click Advanced and you can adjust tone controls.
You might also want to check the volume setting on any memory resident programs that load. If the sound is set down on such a program, when it loads it might impact the sound settings for normal operation as well. Real Player is notorious for doing this.
Also check your wire connections.

Already tried all of those things too. Do I need to just find the right drivers somewhere? If so, could you help me out in getting to the right place? Thanks again for all your help.

Here is a link (http://support.dell.com/support/downloads/devices.aspx?c=us&cs=19&l=en&s=dhs&SystemID=DIM_PNT_P3C_4100&os=WME&osl=EN#) to your system's drivers/software.
*If you have the restore Dell cd you can reinstall the drivers for your system, which might be easier for you:
