Hi there, I recently purchased the Linksys Router WRT54GS. I use it to network my desktop and laptop together to share internet. Connection works perfectly fine. Although there is one weird problem. I tend to notice that when I leave my computer unattended (...lets say a few hours) and when I come back, internet connection is gone. I checked the status of the connection and it says its perfectly fine. Sometimes, even when I download files overnight while I"m sleeping, I wake up the next morning to see they aren't finished because the connection somehow stopped. And when I'm home on the computer for numerous hours, it works perfectly fine. So to solve this problem, I always have to pull the plug out from the router and replug it in, which resets the router (I think). Everything works fine after that. Has anyone have this problem before? I searched on Linksys tech support and they didn't give me and good tips to solve this issue. I'm pretty sure there isn't anything wrong with my ISP. I'm not sure if its a firmware issue. I tried fooling around with different verisions, but no luck. Some couldn't even upgrade properly. Some help please! Much appreciated!

My system specs are:
AMD athlon 3200
Windows XP
Cable Internet
1 gb of ram

Yeah, I thought there was some setting in the power options that disabled the connection when my computer is unattended, but it doesn't look like it. Although, I am still trying a few different options to find out if it is the problem.

I've never had good success with Linksys routers. I've always used D-Link. Sounds like a familiar problem I had with a older model wireless linksys router I had. Tried drives/firmware and nothing fixed it, so I destroyed it and bought a D-Link DI-524.

Not that its any help but I was just about to spend £75 on a Linksys router going to look for a different one now:D Try looking at the router settings normaly type 192.168.1.1 in a browser.

I really don't know too much about routers. I hear good reviews on the D-Link and Linksys, especially the one I just bought (WRT45GS). I just have a really strong feeling that I missed when I set it up and/or if there is something in the setup options I need to configure. Anyway, I decided to go with Linksys tech support again and they emailed me something else to try. I think it was something about the MAC address clone. I just enabled it. Then I also unplugged and replugged the modem, router and all that bull...-_-; Now its time to play the waiting game again when I'm asleep or not home.

Well, what do you know? It worked!....so far? You have no idea how it feels when you wake up or come home to see your connection still alive when your downloading stuff :D I guess the answer was pretty simple. "Enable the MAC address clone." I forget why, but I think it had something do with my ISP (so it could recognize it?) Anyway, hope this router won't fail me anymore. Thanks for the replys DudeKing.
