I need some help with my computer. If I put a cd in the cd rom drive, nothing comes up. Even if I click on My Computer to click on the icon, that dosen't show up either, as if there's no cd in there. So I thought about restoring my computer to set it back to how it was when everything was working but when I put the quick restore cd in the drive and reboot the computer, nothings comes up.

Any ideas on how I can fix this please? My computer is a Compaq Presario, if that helps.

Hello clutchcity, welcome to the community.

You could also just do a system restore.

To Run System Restore click on

“Start/Programs/Accessories/System Tools/System Restore”,\

Select “Restore my computer to earlier time” and click next

Choose a restore point, (select a date and hit next).

The system will then warn you that your about to restore your system.

Then system will restart.

Also you could try going into the device manager and see if there are any exclamation marks listed for that drive. Then delete the drive from there and restart your system, Windows will then find the device and reinstall the drivers for it.

See if any of those suggestions work, post back.

I tried the system restore but it was unsuccessful. I also went into the device manager and tried what you mentioned but it didn't work either. I just wish I could restore it using the quick restore cds but that dosen't work either. Do you think I should just take it in to have someone repair it? What would they do to it? This seems like something I can do myself but this has neevr happened before so I'm clueless on what to do.

Is the drive showing up in the device manager?

It may also be you have a bad cd drive.

Do you have any drivers for it?

Is there another way I can restore my computer besides using the cds since my cd-rom drive is missing and using the restore system from the start menu?

Did you try downloading the drivers from the link I posted above?

Why do you want to restore your computer?

If you want to do a restore to factory settings or get original drivers then the answer is no, you need to use the Compaq disks.

I would try downloading the drivers from the link i posted and see if that helps first.
