Hi,
My pcs going in for a health check next week and while i'm there i'm going to buy a new anti-virus program to replace my current NAV 2001. Basically NAV keeps on breaking whenever I use the system restore utility in Windows ME. I can't keep on re-installing nav to solve the problem so i'm going to buy a new program.
I need help as I think I want to get Mcaffee 7.0 but I want to ask whether anyone else here has had any bad experences with Mcafee and Windows ME as there is no point getting it if there will be problems.
Thanks in advance:)

When doing the system restore, I believe you have to have the AV program shut down, this may be why you are having problems!!

As for another AV program, Grisoft's AVG is a freebie, I've had it here a few years now, it sure works fine for me!! :)

Just one person's opinion here......

I had Mcaffee on this ME machine. I ripped it out after 48 hours...

Mcaffee has a reputation for being thorough....but it also has a reputation for invasiveness and instabiltiy. This has been the case from win98 as well. In most cases it is program conflicts, but I have tried twice....on a 98 machine and pre-installed on a ME machine. I'll never try it again.... :(

My problems a common one with NAV 2001, it's not my fault it's just that Nortons lot forgot to make it compatiable with th enew system restore function in ME.

Just to update you on what happened. Took my PC in and to solve the error and solve a few other issues I got the guy to re-install windows. This is a bit of a pain in the butt but at least it solved the prob. I think i'll invest in Norton Gostr of roxio go back as windows ME restore is pretty rubbish anyway.
Thanks for your advice anyways :)

Etrust is a good pay Antivirus. It is based on the Inoculate IT which was free for a long time. Excellant AV program to have. Etrust AV (http://my-etrust.com/products/Antivirus)

Etrust is much much easier on your system resources than Norton or McAfee. You'll like it very much if you switch.

McAfee is Junk in any way you look at it. Hard on the system, doesn't scan properly, doesn't pick up as much as the other AV's. I just plain hated that program. I used in Win/98 with nothing but problems. I personally wouldn't have them again if they went to a free product.....

AVG that Lufbra mentioned above is a great program. They've really upgraded their service in the last year and can compete with the best now. Its 100% free, so you can' t lose anything by trying it....
