Compressed Files constant errors

Hello.
lately i have installed windows XP sp 2 on my computer.
since than every time i try to extract a zip/rar/ace file
i get this error: "CRC Failed in [filename]"
or "CRC check failed...."
I would really appriciate it if someone could explain to me what this errors mean and how to fix the problem.

i have been trying to extract the files with Winzip, winrar, winace, and multiple softwares they all give the same errors.

CRC Error means "Cyclic Redundancy Check Error" or in laymans terms .... it cannot read the source data.
This may be because of corruption or, depending where the file(s) are stored it may be a drive read error or a CDR/DVDR read error.

One simple way to check the source data is to make a copy of it .... if you cant do that the data has become corrupted somehow.
