View Full Version : Standby option not available

Hi -- a while back, my PC was having major standby and shutdown issues. When I tried to Shutdown using Start - Shutdown, it would hang and I would have to unplug. My Power Options were set to go into Standby after 30 minutes or so, and whenever it tried to do that, the PC would hang and I would have to unplug. At that time, a window came up saying something like, "The last several attempts to go into Standby have been unsuccessful. Would you like to remove that option?" I chose yes.

Since then, all my Shutdown problems have been resolved, but now I cannot enable the Standy option anymore. When I go to Control Panel - Power Options, Standy is no longer an option. I can't get it back and I don't know where to look. Do I have to re-install ME to get it back, or is there an easier way? Because that would make me very nervous!

Thanks in advance for any advice you might give.

Thanks for your quick reply yesterday, Tweaker. Before I posted my question, I had looked at the MS Support site, searching for articles on "Standy" issues, with no luck! You found the right one.

I followed the steps it recommended. It said to look for an "Advanced Power Management Support" entry under the "System Devices" branch of the Device Manager. Mine only shows these 3 power-related items: "ACPI Generic Bus", "ACPI System Bus", and "Advanced Configuration and Power Interface 9ACPI) BIOS". So, I followed the steps to Install New Hardware and the support entry did not automatically appear, so it's telling me that it may be a hardware issue. I guess I'll have to contact HP. Unless one of the 3 items already in my list is the support entry and I don't know it?

Anyway, thanks again for your help.

My travels to the HP Support site were successful. I downloaded and installed 3 different BIOS Updates and one of them helped fix the Standby problem. I'm all set.

Thanks again for your help and pointing me in the right direction. Every time I visit this site, I learn something new and useful!:thrilled:
