I need some advice on start up items to optimize system resources. I recently installed "Spybot" with Teatimer enabled. I then noticed via my resource meter that system resources were about 60% while sitting idle. I then disable Teatimer and that brought it up to 69%. I've always kept the start up fairly trimmed down, so I'm trying to figure out why resources sre low. I know this computer isn't a "hot rod", but still.....

Ok:

1. In start up (via msconfig) I have tried to disable "Ensoniqmixer starter.exe" . After reboot it's always there - obviously it's something I need. What the heck is it and does it even use any resources?

2. I've disabled "Stimon.exe" . I know this is some kind of scanner support. Will my scanning function ok without it?

3. I've disabled "cfmon.exe". Whenever I open any Microsoft Office programs - Word, Excel, etc.... it always comes back. Obviously it's essential to these programs. Anything I need to know about this?

4. I've tried repeatedly to disable "PowerReg Schedule.exe" to no avail. I found it and moved it into the recycle bin. So far no problems. What do you think?

Thanks in advance. What an awesome service you folks are doing.

Welcome to CTH:D

Ensoniqmixer starter.exe - this is for your audio heres how to desable it - http://www.pacs-portal.co.uk/startup_pages/starter_exe.htm - but this may remove sound.

Stimon.exe - yes this is for your scanner you can desable it but your scanner may not work heres some extra info - http://www.liutilities.com/products/wintaskspro/processlibrary/stimon/

Cfmon.exe - This is part of a trojan download hijack this from the download section of this web site and create a log, then post the log in to the cybersaftey section of this site - the file is a majour securty risk to your system.

Powerreg scheduler.exe - I beleve this is adware, it needs to be removed, but post in the cyber safty section of this site this all they will help you futher.

Thanks Eddie.
I think I'll leave the Stimon and EnsoniqMixer alone - I don't want to mess up the scanning or the sound. I'm not so sure that either is zapping my system resources.
I am somewhat alarmed at the other 2 issues and will take them to the Cybersafety section.
