Photodraw 2000 not saving jpg/gif in xp pro

Hello. I have a rather curious problem and would be most grateful for some help. I originally put this on the XP forum because I thought it was an operating system problem, but was told off, so here it is in the right place!

After installing XP Pro, I installed Microsoft Office 2000 and also Microsoft Photodraw from CD 3 of my original Microsoft CDs

Unfortunately, Photodraw seems to divorce itself from jpg and gif files.

When using "Save As", neither gif nor jpg options are listed.

In particular, when using the "Save for use in" option > "On the web" > "as a picture", the sizes of the proposed gif file is stated as 420992363K (yes!) and for jpeg, 6291560K instead of the expected 20K to 50K or so. Also, the boxes which should show a part of the picture remain white. On going on to the SAVE option, neither the gif nor jpg are shown, and only the MIX option is available, regardless of which option was selected at the earlier stage.

After noticing the above, I then discovered that the program will not OPEN either gif or jpg files either!

I particularly need this program to enable me to reduce the physical size of my JPG files for use on eBay. It resizes and saves quickly and until now has always worked with jpg and gif files; I also have a fair amount of stuff in MIX format.

The same program (with the same installation CD) works on another computer I have, also with XP.

I would be most grateful for any help on this. I am familiar with Regedit and happy to try anything suggested!

Thank you in anticipation.

Chris.

Edited to correct spelling errors.

Sorry - I thought it was a problem caused by XP and not by the application - I've uninstalled and re-installed it, to no avail.

I don't want to save it as something else and reconvert it by buying other software when I've already got bought this one and it has always worked so far (including on another computer with XP).

I will put it on the Applications forum as you suggest.

Thank you.

I will look for infranview, thank you.

However, I still need to be able to open jpgs of the pictures of the books I sell from my camera and resize them and save them as much smaller files for ebay use.

Hi there and a warm welcome to CTH.

I have moved your topic from XP as we already have some replies here.

You SHOULD be able to use PhotoDraw to open and save jpegs (although I DO agree with the recommendation to use IrfanView (Available from our downloads section: http://www.cybertechhelp.com/downloa.../image-editing ).

I would re-install PhotoDraw but make sure you do a custom install and make sure you install all the image filters.

Irfanview can resize and crop etc as well as just view images. It's about all I ever use for basic image manipulation.

Thank you very much indeed for your hospitality here. I shall naturally let you know if and when and how it is resolved; however, there is no joy yet.

I have tried uninstalling and manually installing (which by default selects all components); I have tried using the repair option, and even using the "add" option, but none of these work. For some really obscure reason, Photodraw Version 2 still refuses to work with either JPG or GIF files and also continues to show the ridiculous file size within the "Save for use in" option.

My suspicion is that perhaps there's a system dll that has changed and is no longer functioning the same way; beyond that suggestion, my competence ceases!!

I have one particular mix file that I'd like to be able to use and can't at present; I really don't want to lose the use of this program.

Thank you ....

Chris.
