Win98 Tower, 10GB HD, 256MB RAM.

Happened twice so far, when I restart the computer comes
up with 'invalid system disk."

So I insert Startup Disk and Win98 CDROM and restart the
computer, goes through detecting the drives, and then says
something like unable to detect partitions on hard drive,
possible virus or third-party progrm, et cetera.

So when I restart the computer one more time, I am able
to run setup from the CDROM and do an "install over" of
Windows and run normally.

So is my hard drive getting ready to crash completely
or what else could be going on?

Thanks.

OMG not yours.......

Need to run the hard drive manufacture's diagnostic software.

Could also be a bad IDE cable... Know what kind of drive ya got:

Lol. That's what I said...

In Everest it says "Generic IDE Disk Type 47".
I had this computer built by a local shop. I guess
the guy didn't use a branded HD.

Well you will need to physically look at the Label on the hard drive. It could be a name brand or one that everest does not recognize.

Have to open up the case then. Joy, happy,
joy. /sarcasm.

I will probably wait and do this when the above
process no longer works. Just have to make sure
to make a backup CD about once a week.

:dizzy:

Thanks, Murf.
