I accidentally ended up installing the wrong drivers for my new USB hard-drive enclosure in Windows 98. (I plugged in the drive, got prompted for driver location and selected the wrong folder). It seems that this wrong driver is so closely related to the correct one that Windows accepted it, but it doesn't work. In fact, it makes the computer crash with a nasty BSOD when I plug in the drive.

(Translated Norwegian error message: Invalid dynamic VxD connection shell from NTMAPHLP(02) + 00000002 to unit 004F, service 1. Invalid Windows configuration. Run Windows setup again to fix the error.)

It seems to me that I could be able to fix the problem if I could remove the incorrectly installed driver. Do any of you know how to do it?

start->my computer->control panel

System device manager

you should see a list of devices (disk drives , audio, networking... ect ect...)

this is where all information about your hardware is stored.

I belive the hard drive should be listed under usb expand the menu and you should see it... right click and should be option to delete... or uninstall ... reboot plug in and ready to go...

Can't find any obvious candidates in the USB tree. There are six entries, but none of them are related to the drive.

I searched the registry a bit, and it seems as though plugging in the drive causes Windows' Plug-and-Play system to crash. I am still unable to remove the old drivers.
