Hello again,
I have another question posted describing some problems I am having, but to summarize...I think I'm hosed in ever getting Win 98 running again. Most of my important files were stored on the desktop. The good news is I can see them using DOS, but I'm not sure how to copy them off? They are too big to go to the A drive. I have another PC networked to this one (but they can't see each other yet). Does anyone no a way to copy to a different networked PC from DOS? Thanks!

The techs here will probably come up with a better idea but, in my opinion,
an external drive enclosure would solve all your problems.
They are cheap (under $30) and easy to use.
The better ones come with an internal fan like this one.

Install the drive from the first machine, plug it into the 2nd, then copy all your files.
When you're finished, format the drive and put it back into the first machine.
Now you can do a clean install of win98 with no errors.
The drive enclosure can always be used later with another drive for storage or backup.

Thanks for the reply....I was able to install Win98 in a different folder, C:\Windows.000. I couldn't get it to run if I installed it in C:\Windows. I can see the files I want and got my zip drive working. So now I guess I'll pull thm off to the zip disks and reformat and do a clean 98 install...fun, fun, fun. At least it doesn't look like I'll loose anything. Thanks again

You have now learned a valuable lesson on the importance of:
Backup! Backup! Backup! prior going dead in the drink.
