I have Windows 98. I took my computer in to a shop to check for adware / spyware, etc and the technician took it upon himself to delete the little pop-up window that comes up every time I re-boot. This is the little "tips" or "Did You Know That..." thing that comes up. I usually just X it out, but sometimes I read some of the tips. At any rate, I wanted to keep it. But he unchecked the box that told it to come up every time I re-boot. Now it no longer comes up. I want to get it back. I remember seeing somewhere in some obscure little file how I could restore it, but now I cannot remember where it is. I can't find it anywhere.
Can someone please tell me where this is and how can I re-instate this tip box so it will again come up when I re-boot.
(The one I'm looking for is NOT "Welcome To Windows 98".)

Thanks for trying!
Most people don't remember this popup. I think it's because everybody unchecked it years ago the first time they saw it and they've never seen it since, so no one I've spoken to has any memory of it at all.

Start>Programs>Accessories>System Tools click on "Welcome to Windows." I think that's what you're looking for and, if so, check the box for "Show this window..."

Miz, he said upfront: "(The one I'm looking for is NOT "Welcome To Windows 98".)"
If you can get rid of tip box, surely one can restore it, ya thunk!:hmm:

Yep, it's definitely not "Welcome to Windows" (that one makes a lot of noise). The knucklehead who deleted it tried for 2 hours and couldn't find it or get it back.
OK, so now Gort was the robot's name and Klaatu was Michael Rennie, so the best I can figure, "barada nikto" meant "grab this lady in front of you and take her into the spaceship, come down to the city jail (without being seen) and rescue me, bring me back to the ship, take the bullet out and bring me back to life". I just always wondered how Patricia Neal conveyed all that in two words. I guess you'd have to speak whateverish to understand.

:rotflmao: That's good, Ardubya. The Day The Earth Stood Still (http://www.belogical.com/klattu_barada_nikto.htm) :D
I think they flew away with that Windows Tip Box.

Oops...once again I didn't let the words actually get into my brain.
Sorry, Ardubya.

"Oops..." Oh, you have that prob also. I thought it so common that almost everyone experiences it, including yours truly.;)
I made a mistake once. That was when I thought I was wrong but I was really right. Yeah, right!!!!:D

Did you try looking in, Search>For Files or Folders just type in TIPS or Window Tips etc. and see what may come up?

Yep DELTREE, tried that. It gave me a file on tips that's just a notepad type file that you read. It didn't generate the little popup box. I even looked in it for some way to turn 0 to 1, but no go.
I was hoping I could find someone with an old copy of '98/version 2 that could load it onto some old hard-drive they had laying around and then it would pop up. Like I said earlier, most people unchecked it years ago the only time they ever saw it so now they can't even remember it.
Yeah Nick, Gort stole my Tips box. He didn't look like he had a face you could trust. (I liked that link you posted!)
