Video freezes, audio continues

I have been having problems playing some, but not all, videos on my computer. After a few seconds the video freezes up but the audio continues. I have tried alternate copies of the same videos and they also do not work, and the same files work on other computers.

I tried playing them in media player, realplayer and windows movie maker, always with the same result. I also tried reducing the acceleration in media player, but that did not help.

My video card is an NVIDIA Geforce Go 6800.

Goto Display Properties>Advanced>Settings>
Look for the Hardware Acceleration section and try setting it to different levels.

I tried hardware acceleration at different levels; it alsp had no effect. I also tried downloading recent drivers for my soundcard, and tried switching to my integrated soundcard neither of which made a difference.
