I have set my in-home lan w/ my main computer running Win XP & my laptop running Win Me. I have tried a dozen shutdown programs & scripts, all give me error codes when I try to shut down my XP computer from my laptop. Doesw any one know how to do this? Both computers have their own internet connection, main (XP) hardwired from router, laptop (Me) is wireless from same router. Thanks alot,Bill

Hi WNicolay, welcome to Cyber Tech Help.
Unusual to require shutting a remote computer down.
To gain full access to the WindowsXP machine you'd need something
like PC Anywhere (http://www.symantec.com/pcanywhere/Consumer/index.html).
It would have to be installed on both machines.
Then you can shut it down via Start(button) or keyboard.

I think I read there is a glitch in XP involving mapped network drives and shutdown. Update your OS on both PCs.

Use VNC (remote desktop sharing) http://www.uk.research.att.com/vnc/
It's free :)
Be aware that VNC sends passwords in clear text format and shouldn't be used for secure remote access. But if you're talking about just for a LAN it's perfect.
