Layers

I know HTML, CSS, Javascript, XML, some PHP and some ASP, and some basic perl.
But one thing I have never learnt how to do is layers!!!

Can any one give me a quick overview or point me in the direction of a good guide?

Thanks

If you know Javascript & CSS then you basically know layers.

They have moved on alot since the early days and now you can make a layer out of many elements, the most popular would still be the DIV.

Show/Hide scripts are basically layers.
Some examples

The first two use document.all which is IE. The third used IDs and getElementBy etc and should work in FF.

Yes the third worked in FF.
Is there any way to do what document.all does with ID's?

Ar yes.
Well the ID's work in FF and IE so is there any advantage of using document.all if ID's can do the same and works cross browser?

They are just old scripts that were written for IE.
You just need to update them with the getElementByName or getElementByID etc.
