Undeleting

Unfortunately, at this stage the job of recovering the file is beyond Windows. But it's not beyond the abilities of numerous third-party unerase/undelete utilities.
Two such utilities are Uneraser (http://www.uneraser.com/undelete.htm) and File Recover (http://rognerud.com/file-recover). You'll also find very good unerase utilities in Ontrack SystemSuite (http://www.ontrack.com/systemsuite) and in Norton Utilities (http://www.symantec.com/nu/nu_9x/features.html), which is available separately or as a part of Norton SystemWorks.
If you need to recover a file immediately, don't install any of these undelete utilities onto the hard drive where the lost file is located, or you may overwrite its contents. Instead, run the program from the installation CD, if possible. Both Norton Utilities and SystemSuite let you do this. These two programs also provide a beefed up Recycle Bin which stores files which the standard Recycle Bin doesn't catch.
