Hi Everyone,
I truly hope someone can help me out here because I have tried everything I can think of to fix this problem and have run out of ideas and I am ready to get the sledge hammer at this point... Here's whats going on:

I have 3 pcs and a laptop - all are connected via a netgear router (and a d-link cable modem)...

I have manually assigned them all ip address via their mac addresses through the router and have made the apporopriate network setting changes on each pc. They can see each other on the network fine. I can copy/move items from one to the other fine. I can ping everything from everyone fine. I can even access the router from each pc just fine. The problem is the ONLY pc that access the internet is my primary pc... All the others say that the internet isn't available or something like that even though it is... Ugh! All except one are running windows 98se - the other one is running XP. My primary pc which is actting normal is running 98se.

One other thing I would mention is all firewalls are off. i haven't installed antivirus yet on the ones that can't access the internet... I will as soon as I get this problem fixed though.

Just to satisfy curiousity I am able to access a different network that I can see - my neighbors wireless internet connection with no problem. I only attached once to see if everything was working on my side and it appears to be ok because it was successful.

I would REALLY love to get this problem fixed... Any ideas, anyone?

thanks for any input you might have!!!

Welcome :)

Post the exact error message
No real error message - it just fails when opening IE - the page cannot be displayed error appears. If you click on detect network settings nothing seems to happen.

Did you setup your cable modem to use the static addresses you've manually assigned?

From a PC that isn't working try pinging your router? Does it work?
Try pinging www.google.com. Does it work?
If you get a failure pinging please post back the all results.

Thanks for the suggestions. Sorry about the delay in my responding - I had since fiddled with this problem a lot now. I have now resolved the problem on all of my XP machines - I am still unclear what the real fix/problem was but I upgraded my main pc to XP and that seemed to have done the trick. The only one I still have the problem with is a 98se laptop, but I dont think I can put XP on it (bummer). It sees the network, the router, it will connect to the router and other pcs. Just not the internet.

I had to manually assign IP addresses to all my pcs so I could block other people because apparently there's a lot of people around here who will just jump on and still your bandwidth... yes, I made the necessary adjustments on all my specific pcs too. All the pcs can see the router and access it. All the pcs can see each other. Its just the laptop now that cannot access the internet - the only 98se machine I might add.
