am currently running sbc dsl on xp systm. i added alinksys 10/100 5port switch to network a win98 se systm. i am getting an ip error conflict. the 98 se had an internet dialup installed b4 i got it. i don't know how to disable this so it will network from my dsl provided switch. any help would get me some relief from the missus

On the Windows 98 computer, go to Control Panel>Internet Options (also can get there in Internet Explorer>Tools>Internet Options) and go to the Connections tab. There's a tutorial button there you can click if you want.
When you're ready to set up the DSL connection, click the Setup button and step through the wizard, telling it to connect through the LAN. When you finish the wizard, Windows should then look to the network card for its internet connection instead of the dialup modem.
Also in the Internet Options window on the General tab, check "Never dial a connection," click OK.
