Hi abcde82
Welcome to CTH
You could do this by installing VNC on both computers, however there are a couple of security issues, and you say you are not a geek, this is an application where a bit of geekiness is an asset.
You may also need to open up some ports in firewalls at each end, being a geek helps here, also.
If you do decide to go with VNC, could I suggest that you configure it to use non standard ports, for security.
See here (http://www.realvnc.com/) for information and downloads.
Good luck.

If the PCs are XP Pro + then you can use Remote Desktop Connection. It's built into Windows.
If you want a comercial product then look into something like GotoMyPC, Laplink or PC Anywhere.
If you want a run down of software then the April 2006 edition of PCW Magazine had a group test of Remote Connection software. You can purchase back issues.
For reference, 3AM Labs Log My In Pro was the editors choice. Laplink Everywhere was recommended.
